i got a bento bowl set! =D

so as told that i can get these cute strawberry sauce bottles at mika's japanese gifts in mississauga, i actually went there today and got them! the package comes with mini cucumber sauce bottles as well : )

i was roaming around the store so carefully, trying to see what they have and hopefully not miss out on anything. i was about to pay for just these sauce bottles, when i decided to walk around one more time before i do that. so then, i stumble across some bento bowl sets, and there was one with the packaging opened for those who want to see how it looks like and the compartments. i was thinking, hmm, this can be useful when i want a lighter lunch, let's say, soup noodle or even just soup and some side dishes. this was originally $40 cdn, but it was half price for $19.90 so i was like, what the heck, i'll get it! there were 2 colours, this blue one with cherries, and a traditional redish wooden looking colour one. i thought this one was cuter, so i got it ^__^

since i'm going on a new york trip with my family this weekend for 3 days, i'm trying to use up as much stuff in the fridge as possible. and this is what i came up with in today's bento for my sister. : P

i made 4 small round containers of vanilla pudding several days ago, and i still have 2 left. so i decided to put one in her bento today, this time with the lid on ('cause she tilted her bento box last time and the pudding got all other the other foood..so this time, it won't happy with the lid on)

my first time making an apple bunny and it turned out okay i think. since i sliced the skin more in, the ears were curled up too high, so now the pudding container lid is keeping it down a bit, haha.

i wanted to make smoked salmon and cream cheese rolls from one if kitchen cow's recipe, but i didn't have any romaine lettuce, or lettuce at all. i even tried using seaweed and make it look like a hand roll but with smoked salmon and cream cheese inside. it tasted okay, but didn't look that great so i didn't make that for my sister. i had some small crackers so i decided to top it with smoked salmon and cream cheese : )

since i have yet to find dividers still, today i used mini colourful marshmallows as a divider and it looks like it's working for now, hehe.

last but not least, homemade sausage rolls! (made them yesterday to use up some leftover chicken wieners) as simple as using puff pastry and rolling a piece of wiener inside, sealing it with some beaten egg and the rest to brush on top of it. that's how i got this golden brown, puffy sausage rolls. the recipe included dijon mustard in the sausage rolls, but no one in the family likes mustard. i wanted to substitute it with honey mustard (which i LOVE) but i totally forgot about buying it. so i just made them plain, and they are still very yummy. : )

for dinner, my siblings and i + my uncle were making sushi and onigiri. for the fillings, we used cucumbers, eggs, crab meat, korean yellow radish and smoked salmon. it was yummyyy : P my sis and i made a few onigiris with my heart and flower onigiri molds. i reserved 2 onigiris and 6 sushi for my sister's bento tomorrow. look at our sushi tower!

wow, first time preparing the whole bento the night before. there are times i make the food ahead of time, so all i have to do it put it in the bento the next morning, but this time i was able to have it all done the night before. hooray ^_^

top tier:
left - swirly green tea cupcakes i made earlier today as tonight's dessert. i made several small ones so i can put in my sis' bento. below it is a red clickety click container of soy sauce and a hershey's kisses.
right - 6 sushi with fillings ranging from cucumbers, korean yellow radish, crab meat, smoked salmon and scrambled egg strips. these ones did not contain much smoked salmon 'cause she's not a big fan of them.

bottom tier: 2 onigiris divided by 3 carrot stars and surrounded by blueberries
left - flower onigiri with shredded pork filling with some seasoning flake and a smiling face made of sesame, smoked salmon cheeks
right - heart onigiri with smoked salmon filling with some seasonking flake and a happy face made of sesame again, smoked salmon cheeks

we didn't have any black sesame, so i had to use these ones to make faces, so it's not that obviously >"
